The Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development (John Griffiths): Through our Coastal Access Improvement Programme (CAIP) the Countryside Council for Wales oversees the improvement of existing rights of way to the coast and the development of new access, with the aim of completing the 850-mile long Wales Coast Path.

A good deal of progress has been made and a number of new sections of path have already been opened. Earlier this year a new section linked the established Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire coast paths, which completed 250 miles of continuous path. Further openings are planned as we approach the grand opening of the Wales Coast Path, scheduled for 5th May 2012.
