Questions to the Deputy First Minister and Minister for the Economy and Transport

Mike German (South Wales East): How many railway stations in Wales have no disabled access?(WAQ50322)

The Deputy First Minister and Minister for Economy and Transport (Ieuan Wyn Jones): There are currently 79 stations in Wales with no disabled access, 57 stations with partial access and 112 stations with full facilities. The 6 new stations being built as part of the Ebbw Valley Railway and the station at Llanharan will all be compliant under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). Newport station will also be fully compliant when work is completed in 2010.

Disabled access for train stations is a matter for the Department for Transport as it is not devolved, and there are funds available to improve access facilities at stations through the Access for all Scheme.
