Edwina Hart: An assessment of the number of jobs secured or skills retained is not made in relation to offers of support under the Economic Renewal Programme.  An assessment of the number of jobs created is made.

During the period 01/09/10 - 31/03/11 the offers of support to businesses under the Economic Renewal Programme were assessed as leading to the creation of 152 jobs.  It should be noted, however, that businesses do not always take up offers of support, so the actual number of jobs created may differ from this figure.

Ann Jones (Dyffryn Clwyd): Pa grantiau / fenthyciadau y mae adran y Gweinidog yn eu darparu i (a) mewnfuddsoddwyr a (b) cwmnïau cynhenid i sefydlu busnesau newydd neu i ehangu neu i gyfnerthu busnesau sydd eisoes ar waith. (WAQ57374)

Ann Jones (Vale of Clwyd): What (i) grants (ii) loans does the Minister’s department make available to (a) inward investors and (b) indigenous companies to set up a new business or to expand or consolidate existing business. (WAQ57374)

Edwina Hart: Repayable Business Finance offers discretionary financial support to indigenous and inward investment businesses and enterprises within the six key sectors of Economic Renewal and to strategically important projects across all sectors.

Further information on Repayable Business Finance can be found on the following links and continues to be updated as the policy is developed:

Edwina Hart: The Welsh Government does not hold this information.

Paul Davies (Preseli Sir Benfro): Yn dilyn Datganiad Ysgrifenedig y Cabinet dyddiedig 25ain Ionawr 2011 - "Dileu Trethi Busnes Ôl-ddyddiedig ar gyfer Eiddo Busnes a Holltwyd neu a Gyfunwyd” sy’n dweud bod yr arian canlyniadol ar gyfer atal neu ddileu’r trethi hyn yng Nghymru oddeutu £10 miliwn, pa ystyriaeth a roddwyd i ganslo a/neu ad-dalu’r £4 miliwn a grybwyllir yn y Datganiad, ar yr un pryd â dal i elwa o'r £6 miliwn o gyllid ychwanegol sydd ar ôl. (WAQ57376)

Paul Davies (Preseli Pembrokeshire): Further to the Cabinet Written Statement dated 25th January 2011 - "Write off of Back dated Business Rates for Split and Merged Business Property” which states that the consequential for suspension or writing off these rates in Wales is around £10 million, what consideration was given to cancelling and/or refunding the £4 million mentioned in the Statement, whilst still benefitting from the remaining £6 million additional funding. (WAQ57376)

Answer received for publication on 26 May 2011

Edwina Hart: For the reasons given in the Cabinet Statement the Welsh Government was not given powers to write off the backdated liabilities and instead accepted the £10 million consequential which will be used to alleviate the effects of the reduction in funding from the UK Government on Welsh Government priorities.
