Questions to the Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing
Janice Gregory (Ogmore): By how much has the Housing Renewal Grant increased in each local authority area in Wales since 1999? (WAQ53178)
The Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing (Jane Davidson): Resources for housing renewal for each local authority in Wales are not hypothecated and are not set by the Welsh Assembly Government. Local authorities determine the nature of assistance given for housing renewal and this must set out in a local Housing Renewal Policy. It is for local authorities to decide how much resources are used to support those policies in the light of their local priorities.
Questions to the Minister for Health and Social Services
Lesley Griffiths (Wrexham): How many girls have received the human HPV vaccine in LHB area in Wales since its introduction? (WAQ53186)
The Minister for Health and Social Services (Edwina Hart): The National Public Service presents (NPHS) quarterly data on all childhood immunisations and coverage levels of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine will be included in future COVER reports. The HPV programme consists of three vaccinations over a six month period and vaccination of girls aged 12 to 13 years old were administered in Wales during September to November 2008. The NPHS will produce statistics on HPV vaccinations for this cohort up to December in its report expected mid-February.
Vaccinations given in the one-off catch-up campaign for young women born between September 1990 and August 1991 began this month so statistics for this cohort will be reported later.
Andrew R.T. Davies (South Wales Central): Will the Minister provide figures for the number of methadone prescriptions in Wales for each year since 1999? (WAQ53189)
Edwina Hart: Health Solutions Wales collects the figures for the number of methadone prescriptions dispensed in the community. They are:
1999 |
35,731 |
2000 |
47,570 |
2001 |
53,362 |
2002 |
56,439 |
2003 |
59,240 |
2004 |
65,581 |
2005 |
77,475 |
2006 |
91,627 |
2007 |
107,412 |
The figures for 2008 are not yet available.
Excludes drugs dispensed in hospitals.
Figures for the period January 1999 to September 1999 have been processed in full. Figures for the period October 1999 to March 2000 have been estimated from a 1 in 10 sample for all chemist contractors submitting more than 2000 prescriptions per month. Prescriptions from the smaller contractors, dispensing doctors, administered and appliance contractors have been processed in full for October 1999 to March 2000.
Questions to the Minister for Heritage
Joyce Watson (Mid and West Wales): How many children and young people in each local authority in Wales have taken part in the Welsh Assembly Government’s free swimming scheme since the scheme was introduced? (WAQ53170)
The Minister for Heritage (Alun Ffred Jones): Details on the number of swims recorded in each local authority in Wales are kept by the Local Authority Data Unit.
These can be viewed at the following website address:
http://dissemination.dataunitwales.gov.uk/webview/
For example the report indicates that from 2004/5 to 2007/8 over 2.5 million free swims have been taken place by young people 16 years and under across local authorities in Wales which cover periods ranging from Easter, Whitsun and the Summer.
I will be happy to send you a hard copy of the report.
Questions to the Minister for Social Justice and Local Government
Joyce Watson (Mid and West Wales): How many people are receiving Council Tax benefit in each Local Authority in Wales, according to the latest figures and how does this compare to 1999? (WAQ53169)
The Minister for Social Justice and Local Government (Brian Gibbons): Responsibility for Council Tax Benefit has not been devolved to the Welsh Assembly Government and remains the responsibility of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). We do not therefore collect data on take-up in Wales. There is, however, some data available on the DWP web-site at http://www.dwp.gov.uk/asd/hbctb.asp
The attached table gives the number of claimants in each of the local authorities in Wales since 2002, the earliest date for which data is available.
